The terminology workunits comes from BOINC projects. A workunit is a single job that is sent to a number of computers to process. The results are then compared to filter out any errors or malicious attempts. Basically a workunit consists of a JavaScript executable and input data. It is downloaded from the [[work source|work sources], processed and the resulting output data is uploaded.

The WC framework enables the paralell execution of a selected number of workunits at once. The workunits are executed on separate threads, which enables the efficient usage of multicore processors.
